I know that I haven't blogged in a while, but I just couldn't pass up the opportunity after I just finished Kisses from Katie. This book is not only real, but really has been a hard read for me. Katie Davis is a woman of God only about a year older than I am. She is a Tennessee native that now finds herself living in Uganda with her thirteen sweet girls that she has adopted. Katie began this journey by first being called by the Lord to go to Uganda on a trip as a high school senior. Katie fell in love. She fell in love with the country and the people. She saw and heard clearly the plans in which the Lord had prepared for her in this country full of vibrant people living in terrible conditions. This book has really rocked me. What I read absolutely blew my mind. That a young woman would completely drop her "comfortable" life in America to lay down her life for Christ and for the people of Uganda. Katie's book consists of pictures of Uganda, stories of her new family, and her new life in Uganda. Katie has seen disease, devastation, death, and destruction. She has been a teacher, a mother, a healer, and the woman that God has called her to be. Katie has truly taken up her cross and laid down her life for the Lord. No questions asked. She has fed many mouths, told many about the unfathomable love that Christ has for them, and shown that love. I can't even describe how much this book has impacted my heart. She has so much love, strength, wisdom, and courage. She finds joy in the will for her life. Katie followed the Lord's voice. She founded Amazima, a ministry that continues to feed, educate, and give medical attention to children. Read this book. I pray that it changes your heart like it has changed mine and encourages you to continue to seek the will of God in your life. My heart is full. "I was forever ruined for comfort, convenience, and luxury, preferring instead challenge, sacrifice, and risking everything to do something I believed in."
"The children would run to me with gifts of stones or dirt and I saw myself, filthy and broken, offering my life to the God of the Universe and begging Him to make it into something beautiful."
"I wanted to be taught by those I teach, and I wanted to share God's love with people who might otherwise not know it."
"On the days when Satan whispers "You can't save everyone, why are you trying?" Let me choose You."
"I no longer have all the things the world says are important. But I have everything I know is important. I have joy and peace that are unimaginable and can come only from a better place than this earth."
"I am much more terrified of living a comfortable life in a self-serving society and failing to follow Jesus than I am of any illness or tragedy."
"Jesus called His followers to be a lot of things, but I have yet to find where he warned us to be safe."
Lord, I pray that I would never forget that You loved us first. That you call us to love the unlovable and lay down our lives to bring You glory.
